Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson hands over captain's armband – for England

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson has handed over the captain's armband for England as Gareth Southgate continues his skipper rotation. Henderson led out his country for their World Cup qualifying wins over Malta and Slovakia last month. However, Harry Kane has been given the nod for Thursday's Group F clash with Slovenia at Wembley, with England knowing victory will earn them a place in next summer's finals in Russia. Southgate has previously made clear his desire to try out several different players as captain with Wayne Rooney having retired from international duty. England boss Southgate hasn't yet made public who will be captain for the final World Cup qualifier in Lithuania on Sunday. Speaking last month, Henderson said: “It’s a huge honour to captain your country but the gaffer wants to bring leaders through the group. Daniel Sturridge one of 11 Liverpool players inside final two years of his contract “I’m sure different people will be captaining the team through the campaign and it’s good that we’ll encourage more leaders. “That’s what will happen over the next few games but it’s been brilliant to captain my country again.”
